In consultation with the elders, Judas decided to march out to determine the matter by God’s help before the army of the king could enter Judah and take control of the city.
But he with the ancients determined, before the king should bring his army into Judea, and make himself master of the city, to go out, and to commit the event of the thing to the judgment of the Lord.
Afterward, Judas met privately with the Jewish leaders and decided to march out with God's help to battle against the king, rather than to wait for Antiochus to invade Judea and besiege Jerusalem.
After a private meeting with the elders, he decided that, before the king’s army could invade Judea and take possession of the city, the Jews should march out and settle the matter with God’s help.
After consulting privately with the elders, he decided not to wait for the king’s army to invade Judea and take possession of the city, but to march forth and resolve matters with the help of God.

Forsooth he with (the) elder men thought for to go out, before that the king moved (his) host to Judea, and got the city, and to betake the end of the thing to the doom of the Lord. [Forsooth he with elder men thought, before that the king moved host to Judea, and got the city, for to go out, and to betake to doom of the Lord the out-going, or end, of the thing.]
